Grupo Ubesol, comprising Ubesol S.L. and Laboratorios Maverick S.L.U., achieved a total consolidated turnover of 284 million euros in 2023, marking a 5.8% increase from 268 million euros the previous year. The group, specialising in Personal and Home Care, recorded a net profit of 9.7 million euros, although it is still far from reaching its pre-pandemic figures, when it exceeded 20 million euros.
Unlike previous years, this year the domestic market saw the most significant sales growth, particularly through Mercadona, its primary customer. These results reflect the team’s unwavering commitment to strong quality and service at Grupo Ubesol.
In terms of internationalisation, especially sales to multinationals, the group is bolstering its expertise and enhancing its understanding of processes and suppliers, while also facing new demands in production processes. This commitment to strong quality has successfully led to the renewal of the IFS HPC certification at its three plants, which assesses production processes to ensure product quality and safety.
Regarding the group’s investments, 7.5 million euros have primarily been allocated to enhancing production capacity, including the implementation of various automations and a software upgrade on the high-speed lines. Reinvestment remains a constant for the group, which has dedicated more than 66 million euros to this area over the past five years, positioning it as one of Spain’s leading manufacturers of wipes, bath gels, shampoos, and deodorants. To continue on this path of robust growth, more than 20 million euros are planned to be reinvested in 2024 to strengthen its production facilities and thus meet the substantial growth of its customers.
Artificial Intelligence, Talent, and Sustainability as Cross-Cutting Axes
Regarding the other key pillars of the strategic plan for 2020-2025, digital transformation continues to advance rapidly at Grupo Ubesol, which is pioneering the implementation of generative Artificial Intelligence across all its processes and in training its staff to maximise the value of this technology.
As for talent management, the company not only continues to commit to creating quality employment (in 2023 the workforce increased by 12%, surpassing 1,000 people) but has also expanded its internal policies on work-life balance.
Grupo Ubesol’s determined commitment to improving its social and environmental impact has led to the development of its 2030 sustainability plan, a roadmap guided by ESG criteria.
It has established a corporate responsibility department, joining the existing communications department, to develop a strategic plan that addresses the social and environmental challenges of the local entities near its three plants in Atzeneta d’Albaida (Valencia), Ulldecona (Tarragona), and San Fernando de Henares (Madrid).
In the environmental realm and as part of the Net Zero GHG emissions goal, it aims to reduce its carbon footprint in the 2020-2030 period, make more efficient use of natural resources, achieve 95% circularity in waste, assess 100% of strategic suppliers, and ensure that 75% of its products contain over 90% naturally derived ingredients.
Through the professionalisation process that the family group has reinforced in recent years, corporate governance has been strengthened with the creation of a Board of Directors, to which independent professionals with extensive experience in management and corporate control have been added, aligned with the group’s values.
Grupo Ubesol’s CEO, Jorge Úbeda, emphasises that “2023 was a year of normalisation in the supply chains, which allowed us to slightly improve margins, thanks to optimisations in the production processes and procurement costs. Our commitment to maintaining striking quality every day and excellent service makes us a trustworthy partner. Therefore, looking ahead to 2024, we continue to reinvest strongly in the company, to keep up with the growth of our customers, especially Mercadona, with the aim of enhancing competitiveness in all our processes and continuing to lead in the categories in which we specialise.”
